Before reaching fame, she formed a couple of punk groups ("Vandals", and after that the "Vicars and screaming Abdabs"). Neither were really successful, but one day, through an advertisement in the paper, she met Vince Clark. At this point in her life things started to look up for her on the music front. | ![]() |
After some time though, both seemed to become uneasy with fame, and both decided they wanted to take different directions in music industry. Alison wanted to take up the challenge of a solo career, while Vince spearheaded the new group "Erasure", fronted by Andy Bell, which has become well known in the pop world.
In 1984 Alison released her debut album "Alf", which is incidentally her nickname. It soared up the English charts and stayed there for well over a year. She was also no stranger to success with her singles. For example "All Cried Out", "Love Resurrection", "Is this love" and the classic "Invisible".
She became a proud Mum in 1985 and decided then to shy away from the limelight and spend more time with her son. In between she did star with Paul Young for Live Aid, but in her own words she never really felt comfortable with all the glamour.
From our personal point of view we can say that motherhood's gain is certainly our loss.
