This all woman group not only became well known for their music, but also for their on stage costumes. In 1983 they brought out the album "All Over The Place" and immediately took America by storm.

The group lined up as follows:
Susanna Hoffs (guitar), Vicki Peterson (vocals and guitar), Michael Steele (vocals and bass) and Debbie Peterson (vocals and drums).
When the band first started out they used the name "Bangs", but soon changed it to "The Bangles" after finding out that there was already a band with the same name.

They encountered a few problems with certain feminist groups who held the Bangles as a group that did little for the feminine sex because of their dress sense and the way they portrayed the female sex. In fact on one occasion when they were in a hotel in Holland they got mixed up with a group of feminists who were demonstrating. Susanna Hoffs said, " we invited a couple of the supporters for a drink to try and explain that we were not the way they thought. However we didn't succeed in our attempt to make peace and if anything we only made the situation worse".

In 1984 they released the album"Different World" and from the album the single" Manic Monday" which became an instant hit (the song was actually wrote by Prince).

Further success followed in 1986 with the song "Walk Like An Egyptian". After these latest hits they decided to sit back for a while and not swamp the public with one hit after another.

Their absence from the music scene was certainly only temporary though as they stormed back with the single "Walking Down Your Street".
In 1987 they made a cover version of the single "Hazy Shade Of Pale" from Simon & Garfunkel. As with most of their previous records this one faired no different, as it also became a firm favourite. Probably one of their most recognizable records was the single "Eternal Flame" which was taken from the album "Everything". The single shot to the top of the charts in both America and England.
In 1989 however the group decided that they wanted to take different directions in their lives and the group disbanded with Susanna Hoffs, Vicky Peterson and Debbie Peterson persuing solo careers.
