Although MANFRED MANN is a group which has been playing through three decades and have changed their band line up a lot. They have proved that their musical talent hasn't deserted them.

We had the pleasure of seeing this band in Vienna on the Danube island where they performed at the yearly festival. We had to wait quite a considerable time to see the band as somewhere along the line during the course of the day's events technical difficulties cropped up and their concert didn't take place until two hours later. Although we weren't happy with the waiting side of it, we certainly weren't disappointed with the concert (I should add the technical difficulties were nothing to do with the band).

The band at the present moment in time actually consists of Manfred Mann (keyboards), Noel Mccalla (vocals), Mick Rogers (guitar and vocals), Steve Kinch (bass guitar) and John Trotter (drums). They started off with "You Angel You" and followed up songs from later in their careers such as "Shelter From the Storm" and "Father Of Day, Father Of Night". The coordination of the two singers was amazing and this put together with the outstanding guitar solo of Mick Rogers made it a concert not to be missed.

For the first half of the concert the songs were (to me anyway) of somewhat newer material which sounded really good. In the second half the familiar tunes such as "Demolition Mann" and "Blinded By The Light" were played. For the two encores they gave, Noel Mccalla and Mick Rogers came back on stage and gave a brilliant rendition of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song".

They were then joined by the rest of the band and performed the classics "Davy's On The Road Again" and then finished the concert with the world famous "The Mighty Quinn".

At present the band are touring Germany and are planning tour dates for England in November, so British fans keep your eyes open.
