John Lennon was facing deportation
from America for an official drug conviction and was facing law suits from
the other three members of the Beatles, the U.S Government and his manager,
on top of that.
the movie Tommy opened up in New York
and was led by a star-studded line up which included Elton John, Tina Turner
and of course The Who. Although Pete Townshend wasn't happy with the sound
quality on the opening night it didn't stop him and the film cast from
three days' solid partying after the film's premier. Reported costs for
two of the Parties in those three days were only $50,000.
I didn't think that lemonade cost that much back then. >;o)
Elton John was not only partying AND
appearing in Tommy but also topping the U.K. LP charts with a Greatest
Hits album.
