Did You Know
That ???

IN JUNE 22 YEARS AGO ....

the punk era was well underway in England. The Sex Pistols reached no. 1 with their single "God Save The Queen", which was banned by most radio stations and several stores refused to stock it for its controversial lyrics. The group themselves weren't even allowed to perform at concerts. So they tried to get around the problem by hiring a boat to sail down the Thames while playing their own compositions. About a week after that incident two members of the group, Johnny Rotten and Paul Cook, were attacked on two separate occasions and both needed hospital treatment.

other punk groups, such as The Jam, The Damned and The Stranglers, also met up with concert bans because of fear of riots.

one person who had no problems giving concerts was Stevie Wonder. He appeared live for the first time after a year's break in front of an audience of UCLA students in America.

Stevie Wonder was also topping the English charts with "Sir Duke".
The Eagles were 'flying high' with the album "Hotel California".
The Beatles' "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" climbed to no. 1 of the English album charts while the Swedish Quartet ABBA continued their phenomenal success with their album "Arrival".
In America Fleetwood Mac wrote their own 'story' with the album "Rumours".

Alice Cooper was in mourning after his pet Boa Constrictor got bitten to death by its rat dinner.

two members of Clash found themselves on the wrong side of the law when writing their names on a wall somewhere in London. They were promptly arrested by the police.

.... 15 YEARS AGO ....

Wham! were heading towards success, not only with their first no. 1 hit "Wake me up before you gogo", but also with announced plans to tour China. Andrew Ridgely appeared to be taking fame in his stride when he was quoted saying, "To us it's a bit of a joke really. We just act as being popstars for 1 and a half hours a day".

three years after his untimely death, Bob Marley's album "Legend" is re-released into the charts and proves to be a world beater.

Howard Jones reaches the UK top 10 with his debut album "Human's lib". The man with the colourful haircut had once even hired The Marquee club and invited record companies to come and listen to him.

Huey Lewis And The News finally strike it lucky, after 13 years of trying, with their first U.S. no. 1 album. When Huey was asked why he was, all of a sudden, the new sensation of the country after having tried for so long, he smartly quipped, "We've learned how to make records better".
