IN SEPTEMBER 22 YEARS AGO ....

Thin Lizzy were going well in the U.K. with the album "Jailbreak". Unfortunately they were forced to pull out of a U.S. tour when lead singer Phil Lynnot was struck down with the disease Hepatitis. Still, all was not lost as he wrote songs for the new album "Bad Reputation" whilst recuperating.

Jimmy Mcculloch, guitarist of the group "Wings" decided to move on and thereby left the group.

after a football accident and other health problems Bob Marley was admitted into a hospital in Miami where he had to have one of his big toes amputated.

Only a month after the death of Elvis Presley, the pop world was thrown into mourning once again when T. Rex star Marc Bolan was killed in a car crash in London. The mini was driven by his girlfriend Gloria Jones when it suddenly spun out of control on a wet road and hit a tree. His girlfriend survived the accident and had to be treated for a broken jaw. As if that wasn't bad enough, whilst being in hospital, her house was burgled and several personal items stolen.

topping the British charts were Elvis Presley with his single "Way Down" and the LP "Moody Blue".
In the U.S. "Fleetwood Mac" stayed at the top of the album charts for the entire month with the album "Rumours".

.... 12 YEARS AGO ....

Michael Jackson's follow-up album to "Thriller", "Bad", went double platinum in its first week of release. In the U.K. alone it sold almost more than the rest of the top 30 combined. In the U.S. it became the fastest selling album ever with a ship-out-order of over a quarter of a million copies.

Sister Janet Jackson was also enjoying success with "Nasty". Paula Abdul, the choreographer for the video, received an award for her contributions to it.

another award winner , this time for not only one but an incredible 10 awards, was Peter Gabriel for "Sledgehammer".

a civil action was taken out against Bruce Springsteen by the instrument technicians Mike Batlan and Doug Sutphin. They alleged that they have suffered large deductions of their earnings from work carried out by them. Batlan also claimed that his signature has been forged on a cheque.

Japanese fans were getting excited as Michael Jackson started his year-long world tour.

Besides "Bad" having been at the top of the U.K. album charts, "Hysteria" (Def Leppard) also took the top spot. Across the atlantic in America "La Bamba" by Los Lobos, the theme tune to the film of the same name (about the 50s rock legend Ritchie Valens), was ruling the charts as well as the film the cinemas.
Also going well was Whitney Houston with her album "Whitney".
