Kylie Minogue

Kylie Anne Minogue was born on the 28 th of May 1968 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, as the daughter of an Australian accountant, whilst her mum comes from the singing valleys of Wales.

Although Kylie became known to many as Charlene in the Aussie soap "Neighbours", she actually starred in many other acting roles before this series ever came to life.

In March 1979 she made her initial debut as a Dutch girl in a TV soap opera called " The Sullivans". Shortly after this period, whilst working in another soap entitled "Skyways", she met Jason Donovan who she later worked with not only in television, but also in the music industry.

Before she left school in 1985 her future already looked bright as further TV work on the programmes "The Hendersons", "The Zoo Family" and "Fame And Fortune" had already been completed.

In 1987 the girl from Victoria hit the big time - as already mentioned above - in the soap "Neighbours" alongside Jason Donavon. Her pop career really took off after performing the 1962 classic "The Locomotion" (originally by Little Eva) at an Aussie Rules Football Game. With the release of this single she topped the Australian charts and was spotted by the hit-producing team of Stock/Aitken&Waterman. With their promotion and packaging of the singer and the then success of "Neighbours" on English television screens, she could do no wrong.

Shortly after having released the singles "I Should Be So Lucky" and "Got To Be Certain" she brought out her maiden album "Kylie". The disc went straight to the no. 1 spot in the UK and in America she signed a deal with the Geffen Record Label. Both her singles "Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi" and "The Locomotion" faired well in the charts.

1989 started the way the previous year had ended, with yet more success. "Especially For You" - a ballad that she sang with Jason Donovan - topped the UK charts and maintained her dominance at the top. In that year she had further hits with "Hand On Your Heart", "Wouldn't Change A Thing" and then with the album "Enjoy Yourself". After the single "Never Too Late" she duetted once again with Donovan on the re-recording of Band Aid II's "Do They Know It's Christmas" which reached the UK number 1. Even though at that time she was more musically inclined than ever before, she still managed to find the time to star in the Australian film "The Delinquents".

In the 90s she went on tour in Australia, had an intimate relationship with INXS' Michael Hutchence and brought out her third album "Rhythm Of Love". With this album rumours started spreading that she was not entirely happy with the promotional team of Stock/Aitken&Waterman. Maybe one of the reasons was her 'girl-next-door-image' which she tried to alter into a sexier one. This image was hardened in 1996 when she recorded the single "Little Baby Nothing" with James Bradfield of the group The Manic Street Preachers.

From 1991-1996 she continued a parallel pop and film career. She starred in the films "Streetfighter" and "Biodrome" and released numerous singles. In England she hosted a revamped "Top Of The Pops" and also undertook a small UK tour.

1997 proved to be a quiet period on the record front and a sad period on the personal front for Kylie as she attended the funeral of former lover Michael Hutchence, who was found dead in his hotel room.

After the release of the album "Kylie Minogue" which was renamed from "Impossible Princess", after the death of Princess Of Wales, she started an 18-date Australian tour. In November 1998 she received the honour of being named the official ambassador for a kids "Help Line" which is a free-call helpline for suicidal children.

Her career at present seems to have sprung back into life. She has recently dueted with Robbie Williams on the single "Kids" which was accompanied by a steamy video, sang at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and is promoting her new album by touring Australia and Europe this year. In fact, the tour is so successful at the moment that additional dates have already been added and it seems like more will follow. On top of that she has been nominated for Best International Female Artist at this years Brit Awards.
